Mirage Outfitter - Hobie Kayaks

Hobie Mirage OutfitterCurious about the mirage driven kayak, we wanted to take one out for a test drive and I’m really glad we did. What an added difference it made in just the pure enjoyment of taking this kayak out into the water. Once we got past the five minutes or so of “How to” set it up, we were good to go.  The mirage drive snaps in easily and the pedals have to be adjusted for size before taking off.  After a short while, it was great to be able to set the paddles aside and just enjoy the ride using the mirage drive system. Pedaling certainly gets you from point A to point B a lot faster and doesn’t require as much effort as you would think.  Shown below is Wil and Eric showing off their skills! Eric advises that the front seat be anchored properly to prevent the back pedals from brushing up against it.  He also advised that if the body of water is full of seaweed, as this one was, to work your way away from that area before using the mirage drive.  Obviously, different elements will be out there on any type of body of water you choose, so just be aware.

The Hobie Mirage Outfitter is worth looking into if Photo by Colorado Adventureyou love the water, enjoy fishing, exercising or enjoy someone’s company and conversation on a pleasant evening at the lake. The fact that you are able to get a full body workout puts a whole new spin on kayaking!

Of course, if you plan to own your own kayak, you’ll get to learn about and truly enjoy all the great features and probably won’t have to ever re-adjust the pedals, but if you rent a kayak out for a day or longer, it’s best to get some quick instructions on how to properly place the mirage drive inside the kayak and how to adjust the pedals just so you won’t waste precious time once you’re at your destination.  Here's a very informative video about the Hobie Mirage Outfitter.
